The Story Behind the Business
Moorside Alpacas are located in the small but lively market town of Kirkbymoorside, which sits at the gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors about 25 miles or 45 minutes drive from York.

Found at the bottom of Kirkbymoorside, Moorside Alpaca’s encompasses 17 acres of land which is slowly being developed into an excellent alpaca smallholding.

The business was started by Debby and Derrick Richardson and has now been running for several years. Starting with just 2 alpacas, through breeding and patience the herd is now 20 alpacas strong. With animals ranging from excellent stud males to beautiful breeding females and one or two characters which put a smile on your face. Over the years alpacas have come and gone whether it be through trade or sadly through illness but more importantly new arrivals each year have helped build up this outstanding herd, and we look forward to a promising future as the standard of the alpacas at this small farm continues to amaze.

The Family Behind the Business 
Debby and Derrick both run the thrilling business in there spare time in addition to working full time jobs and raising a family. Their two son’s, Jake and Russell, are a big help in the business giving a helping hand when needed. This includes putting forward my ideas and writing all the information and providing pictures for this website. Everyone in the family does their own thing outside of the alpacas, Jake being an enthusiastic modeller, painter and designer while still at Ryedale School and Russell (That’s me) being a musician and currently training as a sound engineer at York College. However we all come together in our spare time to work with these amazing animals. It’s an addiction for which there is no cure. You have been warned!

Why Not Come See the Alpacas? 
There is always someone about so feel free to come and see us and the alpacas if you fancy a nice day out. Get up close and personal with the alpacas. Why not have a go feeding them and finish of with an unforgettable cuddle... But please make sure you contact us before coming.

Our Future Plans
Our aim is to breed a large and successful herd of alpacas and to build upon our name for breeding excellence in the North. At some stage in the future we would like to set up a centre where new owners can come and learn all about alpacas and have hands on experience, as well as make our alpacas more accessible to the public.

We are very lucky to be situated in such a beautiful location so whilst you’re here why not go see all the other attractions. Such as the full-sized steam railway located just 15 minuets drive down the road, or venture across the great North Yorkshire moors and visit the famous sea side towns such as Whitby and Scarborough. There are endless amounts of experiences in the area to keep you happy.
